About Us
Jim and Jackie have a small farm located South of Rowley, Iowa in Buchanan County. On our farm we raise Brown Swiss Cattle under the herd prefix of J-Hacs Farms. We also have horses, a llama, multiple barn cats, and our dog, Cocoa. Jim is a High School science teacher at Independence Junior/Senior High School. Jackie owns dance studios, Heinz Academy of Preforming Arts. Jackie holds a degree in Health Promotion from the University of Northern Iowa. Jim holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry and Secondary Education from Clarke College (now Clarke University) in Dubuque, Iowa.
Jim's love of poultry goes back to his childhood outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He visited Harold Halbach's hatchery with a friend and fell in love. He hopes to offer the quality of Poultry that Mr. Halbach offered prior to his retirement.
We have had a small flock of crossbred chickens for several years as well as a Turkey hen and a couple of ducks. In May of 2011 we bought our first purebred chickens and it has been a fun ride ever since. We have acquired much of our stock from County Line Hatchery, owned by dear friends Kyle and Trish Dusil and Dustin and Liz Rawson. We have also bought hatching eggs from many individuals and have swapped eggs with friends on Back Yard Chickens.
In July we purchased our flock of Iowa Blues. We have been selling eggs from them since September when they have been in their own coop. We have expanded our crossbred duck flock, introduced a Guinea flock, and added geese.
Please don't be afraid to contact us with any questions.
